James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings.
하나님과 구주 예수그리스도의 종, 야고보가 흩어져 있는 열두 지파에게 문안합니다.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
나의 형제들이여 그대들이 갖은 시험을 만날 때에 순전한 기쁨을 생각하십시요.
because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
왜냐하면 그대들의 믿음의 시험이 인내를 잉태케 하는 것을 알기 때문입니다.
Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
인내는 그대들로 하여금 어느것에도 부족하지 않은 완전하고 성숙한 그들의 일을 완성케 합니다.
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
어느 누구라도 지혜가 부족하면, 우리의 결점을 찾지 않고 관대하게 주시는 하나님께 구하십시요. 그러면 곧 그는 지혜를 선물로 받을 것입니다.  
But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
그러나 그가 구할 때는 아무 의심 없이 믿어야 합니다. 왜냐하면 그것은 마치 바다에 물결이 치는 것과 같고 바람에 날려서 흔들리는 것과 같기 때문입니다.
That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord;
그러한 사람은 하나님께로부터 어떠한 것도 받으리라 생각하지 말아야 합니다.
he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
그는 두 마음을 품고 그가 하는 모든 것에 불안정한 사람입니다.
The brother in humble circumstances ought to take pride in his high position.
고난에 처한 형제는 그의 고귀한 연단에 대해 자부심을 가져야 합니다.
But the one who is rich should take pride in his low position, because he will pass away like a wild flower.
그러나 부한 사람은 그의 낮은 상태에 대해 자부심을 가져야 합니다. 왜냐하면 그는 바람에 나는 꽃과 같기 때문입니다.
For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed.
태양이 뜨거운 태양과 함께 떴어도 대지에서 빛을 잃는 것처럼, 그들의 영화와 아름다움도 결국 없어지게 되고 말것이기 때문입니다.
In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business.
이와 같이 부한 자도 그가 영화로울 때에 사라지게 될 것입니다.
